| BELIEVERS' BAPTISM |
What is Baptism?
The word baptise means to plunge, sink, drown, drench or soak. So we baptise by immersion.
|
Why be baptised?
To obey Jesus' command in Matthew 28:18-20
To publicly demonstrate faith in Jesus and a commitment to live for Him.
To prepare to serve Jesus; Matthew 3:16; Acts 22:15-16; Acts 9:17
|
What does baptism mean?
Baptism is a sign of four things:
Washing away past sins.
Burying the old life. When we join our lives to Jesus, God makes what happened to him apply to us - death, burial and resurrection; Colossians 2:12
Drinking God's Holy Spirit; Acts 2:38. Just as in baptism we are soaked, immersed in water, we are also baptised and filled with the Holy Spirit.
Joining the Body of Christ. Baptism is an initiation into the body or family of God
|
When should baptism take place?
As soon as possible after we become believers; e.g. Acts 8:36-38
After a time of preparation
