Students


The student hospitality programme is run by John and Cilla Slater. After spending her early years in India, Cilla came to finish her schooling at King Edwards School in Witley and later settled in Guildford after qualifying as an occupational therapist. John first came to Guildford to study at the College of Law later returning to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry. They married in 1986 and have two teenage children.
As well as providing a means for new students to integrate into the life of the Church, the student hospitality programme provides an opportunity for students to meet other students and to enjoy the hospitality of Church members. On a monthly basis during term time, students are invited to regular Sunday lunch events either at the Church or in the homes of Church members. The hospitality programme allows students the opportunity to escape from the busy student 'rat race' from time to time. Click here for information on the next event for students. Dave and Emma Grimm left University in 2005, married and then spent a year teaching English in China. They started coming to Guildford Baptist Church when they returned to the UK in 2006. Dave works as a business consultant and Emma as a primary school teacher. They are responsible for events aimed at 'children of the 80's' (late teens and twenties) whether they are students or not. So keep a lookout for these events as well as the hospitality ones.
